Board recognizes Spring ISD TMEA All-State Musicians

For the first Point of Pride recognition, Director of Performing and Visual Arts David Tijerina-Landgrebe approached the podium to celebrate an extraordinary achievement in music.

Kevin Aguilar, a senior bass trombone player from Dekaney High School under the direction of Erick Duenas, and Joshua Solano, a senior percussionist from Spring High School under the direction of Jason Smith and JD Guzman, earned a place in the prestigious Texas All-State Bands—one of the highest honors a high school musician can receive.

“These two students were two of 70,000 students across the state who started this process last summer, and of them, only 1780 students qualified for All-State, which is about 2.5%,” said Tijerina-Landgrebe. “I assume you can imagine that it is incredibly difficult to achieve at the 6A level.”

Both Aguilar and Solano will travel to San Antonio to perform for three days with the Texas All-State Bands, making the board meeting their final stop before departing.
